What is literary Darwinism?

Literary Darwinists integrate literary concepts with a modern evolutionary understanding of the evolved and adapted characteristics of human nature.

They contend that all knowledge about human behavior, including the products of the human imagination, can and should be subsumed within the evolutionary perspective.

Literary Darwinists read books in search of innate patterns of human behavior. They say that it’s impossible to fully appreciate and understand a literary text unless you keep in mind that humans behave in certain universal ways and do so because those behaviors are hard-wired into us.
